Lich - Past
The first fiend you face again in the Chaos Shrine of the past is Lich. Now much stronger, he has abandoned his weakness to Fire and added the devastating Flare spell to his arsenal, serving as the gatekeeper to the lower levels of the final dungeon.

In this rematch, Lich has 2,800 HP and is only weak to Dia spells. His Fire weakness is gone, and his stats are significantly higher across the board.
Battle Strategy
The strategy shifts slightly from the first encounter. Your White Wizard should use Diaja for damage when not healing. Physical attackers, buffed with Haste and Saber (from Giant’s Gloves), are still your main source of damage. With Flare in his arsenal, keeping HP high is more important than ever.
Focus on buffs and Dia magic. Do not waste turns on Fire spells. Buff your fighters, have your White Wizard alternate between Diaja and Curaja, and wear him down. Using a Light Axe as an item in battle will also cast Dia, providing extra damage from other party members.
After the Battle
Defeating Lich for the second time allows the party to proceed deeper into the past Chaos Shrine, where the other three fiends await in their strengthened forms.
